Taylor Takes All-C-USA First Team Honors

March 9, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF senior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla.), who ranks third nationally in scoring at 26.6 points per game, has been named to the All-Conference USA First Team, the league announced Monday. The All-America candidate averaged a league-record 29.1 points during C-USA play.

Taylor has led the Knights in scoring in 29 of the team's 30 contests in 2008-09. He has recorded nine 30-point showings and one 40-point performance.

He was joined on the first team by Aubrey Coleman (Houston), Tyreke Evans (Memphis), Stefon Jackson (UTEP) and Jerome Jordan (Tulsa). Conference coaches and media members selected the all-conference squads. The league will announce its player of the year on Wednesday at the C-USA Championship in Memphis, Tenn.

Taylor totaled a league-best 466 points against C-USA opponents this year. On Feb. 25, he recorded 45 points, which ranked second on the conference single-game register, versus Rice.

This season, Taylor is among the C-USA leaders in field goal percentage (48.5-6th), 3-point field goal percentage (38.4-4th), free-throw percentage (81.2-11th), rebounds per game (5.2) and blocks (24-13th).

UCF's all-time leading scorer at the Division I level with 1,964 points, he is also fourth on the C-USA career list.

Taylor is the first Knight to garner all-conference first team honors since Dexter Lyons received All-Atlantic Sun accolades in 2003-04. A year ago, Taylor was named to the All-C-USA Second Team.

UCF has earned the No. 6 seed at the C-USA Championship and will face No. 11 Southern Miss Wednesday in the first round. Tip-off from the FedEx Forum is set for 3:30 p.m. The winner of that game will meet No. 3 UAB in the quarterfinals Thursday.
