UCF Appearing in C-USA Championship Game on ESPN2 Sunday

NEW ORLEANS, La. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team will be vying for an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Eastern when it meets third-seeded Southern Miss in the title game of the 2009 Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship at Fogelman Arena. The contest will be aired live on ESPN2.

Allen Hopkins will serve as the play-by-play announcer for the contest while Leslie Hill will handle the color analyst duties.

UCF is 4-1 this season in five televised games, including a 62-51 victory over SMU last night in the semifinals. Sophomore Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y.) had 18 points and 19 rebounds to lead UCF in that contest. UCF used a 9-0 late to pull away and win despite shooting just 29.3 percent from the field.

In two meetings with Southern Miss this season, UCF was 1-1. The two teams opened the conference season against each other in Orlando on Jan. 3, with the Knights winning 65-59. Cannon had 18 points and nine rebounds in the program's first win in 12 meetings with the Golden Eagles. Southern Miss returned the favor in Hattiesburg, posting a 69-64 victory on Jan. 18. Freshman Aisha Patrick (Rockledge, Fla.) averaged 14 points per outing against Southern Miss this season.
