ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team rolled to a 5-2 win over Georgia State, Sunday at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Knights (7-5) opened the contest by taking the doubles point and then won four of six singles matches.
The win was the second-consecutive victory for UCF. The contest served as match four of an eight-contest homestand for the Knights.
"It is good to get some momentum rolling at home," UCF head coach Bobby Cashman said. "We have been focusing on our doubles. We were close Friday (versus Florida Atlantic), but we stuck with the game plan and it paid off today. When you keep the intensity high and stick to the fundamentals of doubles, then you are going to start getting those doubles points, and that is what we did today. We've made a lot of progress in all aspects of the game up to this point in the season, but we're excited to get back to the courts for practice because we know we've still got room to grow."
UCF junior Marc Rocafort (Barcelona, Spain) picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Jackson Moore. Fellow junior Johnan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) and sophomore Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) were all quick winners for the Knights.
Beigart eased past Trenton Spinks, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 4. Facing Lucas Thomaz at No. 3, Schwartz recorded a 6-2, 6-3 victory. UCF's other singles triumph came at the No. 5 spot, where freshman Eugene Dolgovykh defeated William Adeimy (6-0, 7-5).
Georgia State fell to 0-13 with the loss.
The hosts clinched the doubles point when Schwartz and freshman Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) topped Adeumy and Thomaz, 8-4, at No. 2. UCF won all three of the doubles contests.
UCF will return to action Friday, hosting Radford at 2 p.m.
