Aoki's 71 Leads UCF In Opening Round of UCF Challenge

SORRENTO, Fla. - Freshman Elisa Aoki (Bradenton, Fla.) fired a one-under-par 71 to tie for 12th overall and lead the UCF women's golf team in the opening round of the UCF Challenge at RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.

The field includes 13 of the nation's Top 20 teams and 29 of its Top 50 individuals. No. 2 UCLA set the pace at 282 (-6) after 18 holes and has a two-stroke lead on the 18-member field. No. 1 Arizona State is second with a 284 (-4). No. 6 Oklahoma State (-2), No. 11 LSU (-2), Tennessee (+2) and No. 8 Auburn (+2) round out the top five. UCF is in 18th place after firing a 308 (+20) in the opening round.

Aoki's 71 put her well ahead of many of the nations' top individuals in a field that is presently paced by Florida's Jessica Yadloczky with a 66.

Aoki has a five-stroke lead on her teammates as Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md.) was second amongst the Knights with a 76. Katie Detelfsen (Eagan, Minn.) carded an 80 while Mayule Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla.) and Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium) each shot an 81 in the opening round. Competing as an individual, UCF's Jessy Tang (Miami, Fla.) turned in a 76 for her first 18 holes.

Play continues at RedTail on Monday and Tuesday with single rounds. Monday's round begins at 9:00 a.m. with UCF's tee times starting at 10:30 a.m. at the 10th hole.
