Men's Golf Moves to Third at Hootie at Bulls Bay

AWENDAW, S.C. (UCFAthletics.com) - Thanks to an impressive second-round performance from freshman Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.), the No. 15 UCF men's golf team moved to second after 36 holes at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Monday. The Knights (565, -3) carded a 10-under 274 as a team in the second round.

UCF is one stroke behind second-place LSU (564, -4). Augusta State leads the field at 558 (-10). The Knights entered the second round tied for fifth. Fifteen teams are in action at the three-round event, which will conclude Tuesday.

Barber helped the Knights move up in the standings. He posted a 6-under 65 Monday and is tied for seventh at 140 (-2). After 18 holes, Barber was tied for 37th. He is one of two Knights in the top-10 individually. Junior Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland) fired an even-par 71 and is tied for ninth at 141 (-1).

Augusta State's Janne Kaske (134, -8) is atop the individual leaderboard.

UCF redshirt freshman Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) is tied for 16th (142, E). He recorded a 3-under 68 Monday. Senior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla.) is tied for 29th at 144 (+2) and sophomore Jed Dirksen (Hampton, Iowa) is tied for 55th at 150 (+8). In the second round, Dirksen registered a 1-under 70.

Virginia enters the final round fourth, one stroke behind the Knights. No. 5 Clemson and 16th-ranked NC State are fifth (566, -2).
