ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF track and field team is set to host its second-straight meet this weekend as 15-plus teams will come to Orlando for the UCF Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The event gets underway Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the UCF Track and Field Complex.
The Knights opened its outdoor season at the UCF Track and Field Complex last Saturday with the Black & Gold Challenge. The meet saw UCF post four regional qualifying marks, including two by sophomore Lizzie Harris (Miami, Fla.) and another by the Knights' 4x400-meter relay team.
Fifteen women's teams will join UCF in making up the field while 14 men's teams also will compete in the event. Friday's light action will consist of three field events, including the men's and women's long jump, javelin and shot put. The 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 10,000-meter run will also be conducted on both the men's and women's side.
There will be a full slate of action on Saturday beginning with the hammer throw at 9:30 a.m. and concluding with the 4x400-meter relay at 6:05 p.m.
In last weekend's meet, Harris was impressive in posting NCAA regional qualifying marks in both the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump. Harris cleared 5-10.75/1.80 in the high jump to win the event by nearly four inches over the next competitor. In the 100-meter hurdles, Harris again set an NCAA regional qualifying mark with a time of 13.88.
She was also a member of the 4x100-meter relay team that set a school record and posted a regional qualifying mark with a time of 45.22 seconds. Harris ran the second leg for the team which also included Tiki James (Miami, Fla.), Dione Thomas (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Sheila Paul (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.).
Freshman Aisha-Maree Frazier (Marietta, Ga.) posted the fourth regional qualifying time for the Knights with her 1:00.46 clip to win the 400 meter hurdles.
