TAMPA, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Three Knights earned singles wins but it was not enough to defeat No. 65 South Florida as the UCF women's tennis team fell, 4-3, in Tampa Wednesday afternoon. Senior Elvira Serrot, junior Katie Orletsky and freshman Andrea Yacaman were victorious for the Black and Gold, which fell to 8-8 on the season.
USF (6-10) secured the 1-0 lead after doubles play by grabbing wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The Knights' No. 3 team ruined the shutout bid by topping Jessica Zok and Allyn Mueller, 8-4.
The Bulls' advantage moved to 2-0 when they notched a win in No. 1 singles, only to see Orletsky post a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6 over Christine Wilson. USF moved closer when it collected a W at No. 5, but again watched UCF climb right back.
Down 3-1, Yacaman cruised by Zok at No. 2, 6-2, 6-3, and Serrot breezed by Iciri Rai in the third set at No. 3, 6-3, 0-6, 6-1. With one match remaining, USF clinch the overall win at No. 4 when Natalia Guevara got past freshman Alexis Rodriguez, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The Knights get right back to work on Friday when they return home to face Louisiana-Lafayette at 10 a.m.
