ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After dropping its last two matches, the UCF women's tennis team looks to get back on track against No. 65 USF (5-10) Wednesday in Tampa. The state rivals are slated for a 2 p.m. matchup.
The Knights are coming off a 6-1 loss to North Texas and a 7-0 defeat to No. 12 Tennessee, and own an 8-7 record on the year. Junior Christy Core (Charlotte, N.C.) provided UCF with its only point in the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 triumph over her North Texas opponent.
Sophomore Jenny Frisell (Gothenberg, Sweden) and senior Elvira Serrot (Madrid, Spain) captured an 8-7 (4) win over the Lady Vols and an 8-4 victory over North Texas at No. 1 doubles. The duo is ranked No. 27 nationally in the latest ITA Tennis Rankings improving their record to 9-2 this spring.
USF claims a 5-10 record on the season and has played a challenging schedule with 10 teams nationally ranked. The Bulls have defeated No. 69 Wisconsin, Syracuse, Penn State, No. 35 Ohio State and Eastern Michigan. Irene Rehberger from the Bulls has a No. 82 national ranking and leads USF with an 8-1 record at No. 1 singles.
All-time, the Bulls lead the series 3-12 against the Knights. Last year, USF defeated UCF 6-1 at the UCF Tennis Complex.
The Knights will host Louisiana-Lafayette on March 27 at the UCF Tennis Complex at 10 a.m. Admission to all home events is free.
