ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After a clutch 4-3 victory over Winthrop Friday, the UCF men's tennis team takes on No. 64 New Mexico State Tuesday afternoon to close out its eight-match homestand. First serve is at 2 p.m. and admission is free to the UCF Tennis Complex.
The Knights (8-7) toppled the Eagles Friday when junior Marc Rocafort (Barcelona, Spain) used his big serve to defeat Roy Sichel, 6-3, 6-4. The win at the top spot gave Rocafort eight wins on the year, and his first at No. 1.
Also recording key victories for the Knights were junior Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) and freshman Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.).
The Knights took the early 1-0 lead after taking 2-of-3 doubles matches from the Eagles. Beigart and sophomore Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) won 8-6, and freshman Eugene Dolgovykh teamed up with Rocafort for a quick 8-3 victory.
The Aggies (9-5) come into Orlando to face the Knights in the first of three matches in the state of Florida.
Following Tuesday's match, UCF will head to Denver, Colo., Saturday and Sunday to take on Denver and Middle Tennessee State.
