March 16, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After earning an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament by claiming the title at the Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship, the UCF women's basketball team will learn of its NCAA tournament first-round opponent and site tonight at 7 p.m. with ESPN's NCAA Women's Basketball Selection Special.

The Knights will play a first-round game on either Saturday or Sunday at one of 16 predetermined sites around the nation.

UCF ran through the C-USA Tournament last weekend with four wins in four days to win the league title for the first time since joining the league and also earn the program's first berth in the NCAA Tournament since 1999. The Knights will be making their third trip to the NCAA Tournament, having also previously gone in 1996.

Trey Wingo will host ESPN's selection special alongside Kara Lawson and Carolyn Peck. On Tuesday, March 17, Wingo, Peck and Lawson will return for a 30-minute edition of the NCAA Women's Championship Special on ESPN at 7 p.m. This show will further examine the bracket seeds and matchups with more reaction from the women's college basketball community.

Following the NCAA Tournament selection show on Monday, there will also be an hour-long ESPNU Selection Special at 8:00 p.m., on Monday as Mike Gleason, Brooke Weisbrod and Dan Hughes will break down the brackets.

For the seventh consecutive year, the ESPN networks will combine to present all 63 games from the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship. During the first two rounds, ESPN and ESPN2 will present the 48 games within 12 telecast windows in a whip-around format with home market protection. ESPN360.com will offer complete game telecasts of all 63 games, while ESPNU will offer select ESPN and ESPN2 early-round games in their entirety. The final 15 games (regional semifinals on) will have national telecast windows on ESPN or ESPN2. The complete schedule will be announced on a later date.
