Hall of Fame Weekend/Football FanFest Information (April 10-12)
The UCF football team will return to the gridiron this Thursday at 9:10 a.m. for the beginning of spring practices.
The Knights return 10 offensive starters and almost the entire defensive front seven from 2008. Last fall, UCF led C-USA in both rushing defense and passing efficiency defense while ranking second in total defense and scoring defense. The Knights were third in the nation with 8.17 tackles for loss per game and the majority of the student-athletes who produced them return. The Knights are a year stronger and wiser on offense as the team heads into its first spring under new offensive coordinator Charlie Taaffe's system. The Knights have also added seven January enrollees, including defensive backs Josh Robinson and Jarrett Swaby, who both find themselves in the pre-spring two-deep.
The NCAA allows teams to practice 15 times during the spring semester and the Knights will take advantage of all of those with morning sessions scheduled periodically over the course of the next four weeks. Also, per NCAA guidelines, three of the practices must be non-contact days. Those will be the first two sessions and the penultimate one on April 10.
Weekday practice sessions will begin at 9:10 a.m. and run through 11:30 a.m. The first two Saturday practice times (March 21 and March 28) are scheduled for 10:00-12:15 p.m. and, on April 5, the team will practice from 1:00-3:30 p.m.
The Knights will hold its annual Spring Game at Bright House Networks Stadium on Saturday, April 11. The scrimmage will begin at 2 p.m. The entire weekend will serve as a showcase for UCF Athletics, prominently highlighting the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame Dinner on Friday and the UCF Football FanFest on Saturday, which includes the UCF Spring Football Game, new Season Ticket Holder Select-A-Seat, Bubbalou's Pre-Game Pig-Out and Legends Barbecue and post-game 2009 UCF football team autograph session. In addition to other spring football fan activities, baseball will host a three-game home stand vs. Tulane, softball will host Marshall and men's tennis welcomes Marquette.
General Admission tickets for the spring game are $5 and can be purchased in advance by calling the UCFAA Ticket Office at (407) 823-1000; online at UCFAthletics.com; or in-person at Bright House Networks Stadium.
All practices are tentatively scheduled for the UCF practice fields and all sessions are open to the public. Fans are reminded that photography and videography is prohibited during the entirety of spring football practices.
