Men's Golf Moves to 16th Nationally

March 14, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team has moved to 16th in the country according to the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. The Knights are also 17th in the Golfstat NCAA Head-to-Head Standings.

Head coach Nick Clinard's team has not competed since claiming the title at the Rio Pinar Invitational in Orlando on Feb. 24. The Knights finished ahead of 20 squads, including several top-50 programs, at the two-day event. The tournament served as the Knights' second event of the spring.

Freshman Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.) won individual medalist honors at Rio Pinar. He concluded play at 12-under 204. He was one of three UCF golfers who finished in the top 10, joining sophomore Jed Dirksen (Hampton, Iowa), who placed third as an individual, and senior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla.), who posted a fourth-place showing.

UCF is scheduled to return to action on March 29 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C.

Dating back to the fall, UCF has won two championship titles and has posted four total top-five finishes this season.
