ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With its spring break trip to New Orleans completed, the UCF women's tennis team returns home for another exciting homestand. The Knights will have four-straight matches at the UCF Tennis Complex, beginning Saturday when they take on Penn State at 2 p.m. and Monday vs. No. 12 Clemson at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
UCF brought home two victories in Louisiana, shutting out Southern, 7-0, before edging Tulane, 4-3. That enabled the Black and Gold to stretch its record to 7-4 on the dual-match season. The victory over the Green Wave included impressive singles play by UCF as it claimed four of the six contests for the overall win, capped off by freshman Christy Core's come-from-behind triumph at No. 5.
After battling Penn State and Clemson, the Knights also will contend with No. 15 Tennessee and North Texas on the homestand.
Penn State stands at 2-9 on the year and will battle USF a day before taking on the Knights. The Nittany Lions opened the year with wins over Bucknell and Montana State, but have lost nine-straight heading into the weekend. As a team, PSU is 74-73 on the singles court and 30-34 in doubles play.
Clemson (8-5) will be a very difficult opponent as its roster currently holds the No. 1 and No. 4 ranked singles players in the country. Top-ranked Ani Mijacika is 20-5 on the year with an 8-2 record at the No. 1 position, while the fourth-ranked Josipa Bek is just in her first year at the collegiate level and carries a 20-7 overall singles mark. A day before meeting the Knights, the Tigers meet Florida State in Tallahassee.
All-time, UCF is 1-1 against Penn State while it will be the first meeting with Clemson.
