ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF head women's basketball coach Joi Williams will make an appearance Tuesday afternoon on the WBCA's "Shootaround with Beth and Debbie," a 30-minute online podcast showcasing women's college basketball. Those interested in listening to Williams' appearance can access a free podcast of the show beginning at Noon Eastern on Wednesday via the WBCA's website, WBCA.org.
Appearing on the podcast for the first time, Williams will follow Maryland head coach Brenda Frese and discuss the Knights' recent run to the title at the Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship and subsequent berth in the 2009 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.
"Shootaround with Beth and Debbie" is a ground-breaking podcast committed to talking about women's basketball every week on the national level. The goal of the podcast is to create awareness of women's basketball and to grow our game. "Shootaround" is a podcast designed like a sports talk-radio show, featuring insightful commentary, news and interviews from the highly-respected announcing tandem, Beth Mowins and Debbie Antonelli. The Knights won their first C-USA Championship on Sunday before a national television audience on ESPN2 with a 65-54 overtime win over Southern Miss. UCF, which had never previously won a C-USA Tournament game in three years in the league, won four games in four days to claim the title.
UCF will learn its NCAA Tournament fate on Selection Monday, March 16 and then play a first round game on either March 21 or 22 at one of 16 predetermined sites around the nation. The Knights will be making their third appearance in the national showcase, previously qualifying in 1996 and 1999.
