Women's Tennis Prepares for No. 75 North Carolina State

March 1, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After beginning a five-match homestand with three victories, the UCF women's tennis team will host No. 75 North Carolina State (1-6) at 2 p.m. Monday. The matchup against the Wolfpack is the first ranked opponent that will face the Knights at the UCF Tennis Complex, where admission to all home events is free. UCF (5-2) has battled two ranked opponents on the road so far this season.

The Knights have recorded victories against visiting Georgia Southern, Florida Gulf Coast and Eastern Michigan on the current homestand. This season, UCF has only dropped one singles point and has swept the doubles point in four matches at the UCF Tennis Complex.

In the last match against Eastern Michigan, the Knights swept the Eagles, 7-0, generating momentum after clinching the doubles point and remaining perfect on the afternoon. The trio of junior Jenny Frisell (Gothenberg, Sweden), freshman Christy Core (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior Katie Orletsky (Titusville, Fla.) cruised by their foes from Eastern Michigan quickly in singles play leading the Knights to the win.

NC State opened its season with a victory over Elon, but has faced a very challenging schedule. The Wolfpack have lost to six ranked opponents, including No. 12 North Carolina, No. 21 TCU, No. 38 Washington, No. 42 Long Beach State, No. 57 Old Dominion, No. 69 SMU, and No. 73 Winthrop. Lenka Hojckova and Berkeley Brock are the No. 33 ranked doubles team nationally, while Hojckova holds onto the No. 123 singles mark.

The meeting between UCF and NC State will be second matchup between the two schools. In the first match during the 2000-01 season, the Knights defeated the Wolfpack, 4-1, on a neutral court.

The Knights will conclude a five-game homestand against No. 6 Duke on March 6. Admission to all home matches at the UCF Tennis Complex is free.
