ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team continues its five-match homestand at the UCF Tennis Complex on Thursday against Eastern Michigan (2-7). First serve against the Eagles is set for 2 p.m. and fans are invited to attend all home matches for free.
In the first two games of the homestand, the Knights took down Georgia Southern, 7-0, on Feb. 13 and Florida Gulf Coast, 6-1, on Feb. 15. Three new doubles teams energized the Knights in sweeping the doubles point in both matches. Junior Jenny Frisell (Prolunda, Sweeden) and senior Elvira Serrot (Madrid, Spain) at the No. 1 position took down both of their opponents, 8-1.
A trio of freshmen, Christy Core (Charlotte, N.C.), Alexis Rodriguez (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Andrea Yacaman (Cartegena, Columbia), all went undefeated in singles against Georgia Southern and Florida Gulf Coast.
Eastern Michigan started the season with losses to No. 70 Michigan State and No. 75 Wisconsin before recording victories at home against Wright State and Detroit. The Eagles have also fallen to No. 66 Oklahoma State, Colorado State and No. 68 USF. On Wednesday, the Eagles battle Florida Gulf Coast in Ft. Myers, Fla., before heading to Orlando.
The last time the Knights and Eagles met was in 2007 when UCF defeated Eastern Michigan, 5-2, at the UCF Tennis Complex. Eastern Michigan holds a 5-3 advantage against the Knights in the all-time series.
The Knights continue their homestand against No. 75 North Carolina State on March 2 and No. 6 Duke on March 6. Admission to all home matches at the UCF Tennis Complex is free.
