The UCF women's golf team had two of the top 10 finishers in the largest collegiate field in America, while the Knights placed ninth as a team, at the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Classic, hosted for the past three days by the College of Charleston.
The Knights carded a 918 (+54) over the three rounds of par-72 play. Miami and Central Arkansas shared the title with matching marks of 904 (+40). A total of 43 schools participated in the event.
Senior Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md.) led the 215-member field after the first round and ended the event tied for sixth overall with a 221 (70-77-74). Freshman Elisa Aoki (Bradenton, Fla.), appearing in her first collegiate tournament, led the field after 36 holes but closed with a 76 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for eighth place with a 222 (73-73-76). UCF is the only school with two top 10 finishers.
A third-round 75 by senior May Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla.) capped off a 235 score for three rounds and tied her for 66th overall. Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium) and Jessy Tang (Miami, Fla.) each tied for fourth amongst the Knights over the 54 holes, carding an identical tally of 244.
The Knights are back in action March 8-10 when they host the UCF Challenge at RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento.
