ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team returns home after a four-match road trip to take on Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday at the UCF Tennis Complex. First serve is at 11 a.m., and admission is free.
The Knights (4-4) finished off the trek in Auburn, Ala., collecting a 7-0 sweep over Samford, and a narrow 4-3 defeat to the host Tigers.
Junior Marc Rocafort (Barcelona, Spain), and freshmen Eugene Dolgovykh and Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.), all went 2-0 in singles last weekend.
Rocafort performed well at the No. 4 spot, defeating Samford's Carlos Abalos, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (2) and Auburn's Milan Krnjetin, 6-4, 6-1. The 2-0 mark at Auburn gave the junior four wins on the season, with three coming from the fourth position.
With wins over Samford's Kelwin DeWet and the Tigers' Alex Petropoulos, Dologovykh improved to 5-3 this season, with all five wins coming at the No. 5 spot.
Delinks, playing in his first singles matches since Jan. 31 against Bethune-Cookman, took out both opponents he faced at the sixth position. The freshman collected a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 win over Samford's Richard Walsh, and a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Auburn's Michel Monteiro.
The Ragin' Cajuns take on Nicholls State Thursday afternoon before they head to Orlando. Last weekend, the team defeated No. 75 New Orleans, 6-1, giving Louisian-Lafayette its second victory of the year.
After the match Saturday, the Knights take on in-state rival USF Feb. 28, as a part of their eight-match homestand.
