ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Ed Fluitt's UCF career was short - the 6-foot-7 center appeared in just 32 games. Despite the lack of longevity, Fluitt, who played for the Knights from 1971-73, proved that he was one of the best rebounders in program history.
A junior-college transfer, Fluitt suited up for all 26 of UCF's contests as a junior in 1971-72. The Wildwood, Fla., native averaged 15.7 points as head coach Torchy Clark's squad went 20-6.
Fluitt made his mark on the glass that year. He grabbed a program record 364 boards, good for 14.0 rebound per game average. In a contest versus Embry-Riddle, Fluitt totaled 23 rebounds, which is tied for the UCF single-game record. He nearly repeated the feat a month later against Hawthorne, but finished with 21 boards.
During his time in Orlando, Fluitt played alongside one of the best players in program history in Mike Clark. Mike Clark finished his UCF career with 2,085 points. An injury cut Fluitt's senior season short. He played in just six games in 1972-73.
UCF's 2008-09 squad will return to action Saturday at Houston. The Knights' next contest at the UCF Arena is set for Wednesday versus Rice at 7 p.m.

The 2008-09 campaign marks the UCF men's basketball program's 40th season. To commemorate the anniversary, UCF is unveiling the top-40 players in school history. Members of the UCF athletics communications office worked with UCF basketball historian Bill Beekman to select the best players who finished their collegiate careers as Knights. One player from the list will be recognized each Thursday at UCFAthletics.com.
