UCF Fastbreak - Feb. 19

Feb. 19, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After he averaged 36.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in two games, there was no surprise that senior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla.) was named the Conference USA player of the Week on Monday. The honor was the fourth weekly league accolade of the season for the All-America candidate.

The four C-USA Player of the Week awards for Taylor are the most in a single season for a league player since the 2002-03 campaign, when Dwyane Wade of Marquette was recognized five times. Wade averaged 21.5 points that season and garnered league player of the year honors.

Taylor currently ranks fifth nationally in scoring at 25.0 points per game. In league play, he is averaging 26.6 points.

Kenyon Martin holds the C-USA single-season record with six player of the week awards in 1999-00. Martin also garnered conference player of the year recognition that campaign.

During his career, Taylor has been named the league's player of the week six times. Taylor and the Knights will return to action Saturday at Houston. The squad's next home contest is Wednesday, when the team hosts Rice at 7 p.m. at the UCF Arena.
