ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Leading the UCF men's golf team to a third-place finish at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., junior Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland) is the Bright House Student-Sthlete of the Week at UCF.
Ward, who carded a 3-under 67 Sunday and finished the tournament at 205 (-5), concluded the event tied for first place with Toby Ragland and Billy Horschel of host Florida. Ragland won medalist honors in a playoff with a birdie on the seventh hole over Horschel. Ward was eliminated from the playoff when the pair of Gators made birdie on the third playoff hole. It was Ward's best finish of the season.
This was the first of six tournaments that the No. 24 Knights will compete in this spring.
In just his first year as a Knight, Ward helped the squad claim The Hummingbird Intercollegiate title in Sapphire, N.C., while finishing tied for fourth individually in the two-round event this fall. Ward also tied for 11th place this past fall at The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.
