ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF track and field team will split its squad this weekend and compete in two highly-competitive meets. The sprinters and hurdlers will compete in the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas on Friday and Saturday while the distance runners and throwers will participate in the UNC Invitational on Saturday.
In a successful first four meets of the 2009 indoor season, the Knights have set school records in seven different events and freshman records in five different events.
At the Tyson Invitational, freshmen Sheila Paul and Jackie Coward, junior Tiki James and senior Shantile Blackburn will all look to improve on their school-record times. Coward and James have both set NCAA provisional qualifying marks in both the 55- and 60-meter hurdles. UCF's 4x400-relay team will also likely attempt to better its school record at Arkansas.
At UNC, junior Kelsey Poljansek will be in action in numerous events, including the shot put. She broke the school record in the shot put at the season-opening Kentucky Invitational and has since bettered it twice.
