ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team closes out its four-match road trip when it heads to Auburn, Ala., to take on Samford and No. 29 Auburn at the Yarbrough Tennis Center Saturday and Sunday.
The Knights (3-3) dropped a 4-3 decision to Clemson in Miami, Fla., last weekend. Junior Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) and freshman Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) teamed up to collect the Knights' lone doubles win when they defeated Wesley Moran and Carlos Alvarez, 8-5.
In singles, those who played in the No. 2-4 spots all recorded victories for the Knights. At the second position, senior Tarek Ben Soltane (Tunis, Tunisia) defeated Rok Bizjak, 6-2, 6-1, for his third win of the season.
Sophomore Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) collected his team-leading fifth singles win this year when he came from a set down to top Clemson's Gera Boryachinskiy, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot. Junior Marc Rocafort (Barcelona, Spain) finished off Kevin Galloway, 6-3, 6-4, to earn his third singles victory of the season, and second at the fourth position.
The first of two matches this weekend pits the Knights against the Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. On Sunday, the team faces a quick turnaround when they take on the Tigers at 12 p.m.
Last time out, the Tigers (9-9) downed Conference USA member No. 75 UAB, 6-1. At the No. 1 spot, Auburn's Alexey Tsyrenov handled the Blazers' Brian Ly, 6-4, 6-0, giving the senior his 11th win of the season.
The Bulldogs (0-4) faced No. 19 Alabama last weekend, and dropped a 7-0 decision in Tuscaloosa.
After the trip to Auburn, the Knights come home for an impressive eight-match homestand that stretches from Feb. 21-March 24.
