UCF SportsKnight Set for Tuesday

Feb. 10, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Fans of the Knights looking for behind the scenes access to National Signing Day at UCF should check out UCF SportsKnight Tuesday at noon on UCF TV and 3:30 p.m. on SunSports. The Knights signed 24 football players on Feb. 4 who will be starting their careers with UCF over the summer.

Each week, viewers are taken inside the past week in UCF athletics by graduate Jeff Sharon during the 30-minute program. Throughout the week, UCF TV, Bright House Sports Network and Fox Sports Atlantic air replays of the show.

Every year, National Signing Day attracts attention from fans and media members who are waiting to see which players will fax in their National Letter of Intent. Host Sharon was given access to the excitement starting at 7 a.m. in the football offices at the Wayne Densche Sports Center. By the end of the day, 24 high school players faxed in their letters stating that they will be joining the Knights for the upcoming fall season.

Football head coach George O'Leary sat down with Sharon afterwards to reflect on his recruiting class and the spring football slate. The signees proved that the hard work that the coaches put into recruiting before, during and after the season paid off. Spring practice for the Knights begins on March 19 and concludes with the annual Spring Game at Bright House Networks Stadium on April 11.

Last week, the women's basketball team finished its four-game homestand with a perfect record knocking off last year's Conference USA Tournament champion SMU on Feb. 7, 79-69. Jermaine Taylor continued to lead the men's basketball team in scoring and is currently ranked sixth in the nation with an average of 24 points per game, but his individual effort was not enough with the Knights dropping games to Houston and East Carolina.

The plays of the week and highlights from both basketball and tennis teams will be shown on this week's episode. Further information on the Knights is provided to the viewers through the news and notes section, which includes upcoming events.

"What I Don't Know" by The Dropa Stone is the featured track on this week's edition of the plays of the week. More information about the band can be found by visiting its website at MySpace.com/thedropastone. UCF Athletics, Real Radio and Axis Magazine are proud to support local area music.

Customers with Bright House digital cable can see the program air at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday and 4 p.m. on Thursday on Bright House Sports Network (channel 47). Multiple times throughout the week viewers can watch the show on UCF TV (channel 1 or channel 99 for subscribers with basic cable). Archived episodes of the program are available online via UCFAthletics.com and ucftv.ucf.edu.

UCF SportsKnight is a weekly program that debuted in September and is produced through a partnership between UCF Athletics and UCF TV.
