UCF Track and Field Competing at Penn State This Weekend

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF track and field team travels to University Park, Pa., for the Penn State National Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The meet, which will be held at Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track, includes over 40 teams, and 61 events will be held on the women's side.

In its last meet, UCF posted a strong performance at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Fla., with Tiki James (Miami, Fla.) and Kelsey Poljansek (Milton, Kan.) breaking school records for the second-straight week. James also posted another NCAA provisional qualifying mark with her performance in the 55-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 7.70 seconds. For Poljansek, she broke her own mark in the shot put with a toss of 47-0.25.

Freshman Jackie Coward (Knoxville, Tenn.) also set a new freshman record and an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 55-meter hurdles. The first-year runner finished the preliminaries in the event in 7.81 seconds. Fellow freshman Sheila Paul broke the school's freshman record in the 55-meter dash with a 7.11.

Overall in the event, head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert's squad set 17 personal bests in the Tom Jones Memorial.
