Jan. 28, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With 15 players suiting up for various teams in the National Football League, UCF led all other Conference USA schools in 2008. Today, we look at former defensive back Travis Fisher.

With the 32nd pick in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft, Fisher was taken by the St. Louis Rams. With his second round selection, Fisher became UCF's second-highest draft pick behind Daunte Culpepper, a feat that still stands today.

In his rookie campaign, Fisher enjoyed a solid season starting 11-of-14 games for the Rams. He recorded 60 tackles, seven passes defended and two interceptions that year. Fisher's best statistical season came in 2003 when the former Knight started 15-of-15 games and collected 61 tackles, seven passes defended and four interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.

Fisher would go on to play for the Rams for three more seasons before signing a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions in 2007. That same year, Fisher enjoyed a solid campaign that saw him record a career-high 78 tackles, five passes defended and two interceptions in 16 games. Fisher was rewarded by the Lions with a three-year contract in 2008.

The former Godby High School (Tallahassee, Fla.) standout played three years at UCF. Prior to playing in Orlando, Fisher spent two years at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas where he led the team to a number four national ranking in pass defense. In his sophomore and junior campaigns at UCF, Fisher combined for 11 pass break ups to go along with two interceptions. His senior year, Fisher recorded a career-high 61 tackles and two interceptions. He also broke up 11 passes for the second consecutive season.

Tomorrow, we look at former defensive back Asante Samuel of the Philadelphia Eagles.
