ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With a combined 58 points in a pair of UCF men's basketball victories, senior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla.) was tabbed as the Conference USA Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It was Taylor's third honor of the season and the fifth of his career.
So far in 2008-09, Taylor has racked up 451 points for an average of 23.7 per game, which ranks seventh in the country. He also has pulled down 100 rebounds and posted 15 blocked shots. Taylor currently ranks 13th all-time on the C-USA career scoring list, and fifth in UCF history with 1,618 points.
Getting last week started, Taylor went 13-for-23 in a 31-point affair to help UCF defeat Southern Miss, 73-61, on Jan. 21. It was the fifth time this season he notched at least 30 points in a game. When Marshall rolled into town Jan. 25, Taylor finished 9-for-18 and 27 points. That included a 5-for-7 showing from behind the 3-point line, as the Knights hit 73.3 percent of their attempts from downtown. That mark ranked second in UCF single-game history.
Taylor hit 53.7 percent of his shots in the two C-USA victories, and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. He now has posted 20 points or more in nine of his last 10 games.
Taylor and the Knights are back on the hardwood Wednesday when they conclude a three-game homestand at 7 p.m. vs. SMU at the UCF Arena. Tickets can be purchased by visiting Ticketmaster.com or by calling the UCF Ticket Office at 407-823-1000.
