ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF track and field team will continue its 2009 indoor season Saturday, traveling to Gainesville, Fla., for the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida at the Stephen O'Connell Center. The meet will begin at 11 a.m. with field events and the 4x400-meter relay is schedule to conclude the day at 6:40 p.m.
The field for the event includes fifth-ranked Florida State, No. 13 Florida, No. 16 South Carolina and No. 20 Miami (Fla.).
UCF enters the meet after opening the season last weekend at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky. Junior Tiki James (Miami, Fla.) is the reigning Conference USA Athlete of the Week after an impressive meet at the Kentucky Invitational. In the 60-meter hurdles, James broke the previous school record running an 8.41 in the preliminaries. In the finals, she bested that time and posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. With a time of 8.30, James finished third in the event.
Shantile Blackburn (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Brittany Long (Atlanta, Ga.) and Kelsey Poljansek (Milton, Kan.) also set new school records at Kentucky.
