FORT MYERS, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Day two of the Florida Gulf Coast/Johan Kriek Tennis Classic was filled with action Sunday, and the Knights finished with another solid performance. The Knights split six singles matches with Missouri while sweeping three contests at the hands of USF.
Picking up victories over the Tigers, sophomore Jenny Frisell had no trouble getting by Kaitlyn Ritchie in a 6-4, 6-1 triumph, and freshman Christy Core earned a straight-set win over Sofia Ayala, 6-4, 7-5. Rounding out the session vs. Missouri, senior Kenza Belbacha gave up just four games against Mauren Modesto for the 6-1, 6-3 win.
Senior Elvira Serrot got to work in singles when UCF faced USF in a trio of singles matches, and collected a 6-3, 6-4 victory vs. Jessica Zok, who entered the weekend ranked No. 121 in the nation. Also notching wins, Core defeated Natalia Guevara and Belbacha topped Allyn Muller.
The Black and Gold did have two doubles affairs vs. Akron on Sunday's slate. Although Frisell and freshman Alexis Rodriguez fell in their match, Belbacha and junior Katie Orletsky dominated Lindsey Berry and Jeremie Benjamin, 8-1.
All of the matches affect each player's individual record, however there are no team scores for the event.
UCF concludes the tournament Monday afternoon, while it will kick off the dual-match season Thursday at home vs. Florida A&M.
