LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - A large group of UCF faithful showed up at Disney's Wide World of Sports Sunday to witness the UCF cheerleaders place third at the 2009 College Cheerleading and Dance National Championships. KnightMoves also performed and brought home two top-12 finishes in the hip-hop and jazz dance competitions.
With their third-place showing, the Knights' cheerleaders have now finished in the top 10 at nationals 14 times in the last 16 years. That includes national titles in both 2003 and 2007. Meanwhile, UCF has entered the top three in each of the last three seasons, placing first in 2007, third in 2008 and third in 2009.
UCF's routine was certainly very strong in the evening session at the Milk House, but Kentucky grabbed the first-place trophy for the second-straight season, with Alabama finishing in second.
KnightMoves performed in the afternoon program, and secured 12th place in the hip-hop finals. Cincinnati claimed the title with LSU rounding out the top two.
They returned to the stage a couple of hours later and grabbed ninth place in the jazz finals. Tennessee and Florida State came in first and second, respectively, in the event.
