ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF senior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla.) was recently recognized for his strong play this past summer when he was named the Florida State Golf Association Player of the Year. One of the top collegiate golfers in the nation, Johnson claimed the Florida State Amateur Match Play Championship in August.
He finished first out of 64 competitors at the event, which was held at the Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach. In the final match, Johnson defeated Carlos Velez, 2 & 1 for the victory.
In June, Johnson tied for third at the state amateur championship at the Jupiter Hills Club in Tequesta. He was one of 168 golfers who participated in the tournament.
Johnson recorded a strong campaign for the Knights this fall. He had a pair of top-10 finishes, highlighted by a second-place showing at The Hummingbird Intercollegiate in Sapphire, N.C., in November.
The Knights will begin their spring campaign in mid-February at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville.
