ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After leading the Knights to a big win over Valparaiso, senior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla.) of the UCF men's basketball team was selected as the Conference USA Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Taylor scored a game-high 21 points in UCF's 85-60 victory over Valparaiso on Dec. 22.
In the win over the Crusaders, he connected on 7-of-10 shots from the floor. Taylor made 6-of-8 3-point field goal attempts. The six triples tied for seventh on UCF's single-game 3-pointers made register. The shooting guard also added three rebounds and a pair of assists in just 26 minutes.
During the game, he moved to third all-time at UCF with 183 career treys. Taylor also ranks eighth in school history with 1,371 points.
On the season, he is second in C-USA and among the top 30 nationally in scoring at 20.4 points per game. Taylor has led the Knights in scoring in nine of the team's 10 contests in 2008-09.
The player of the week honor is Taylor's first of the season and third of his career.
Taylor and the Knights will return to action this evening, hosting Penn at the UCF Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game is part of the UCF Holiday Classic. The event will conclude on Tuesday with games at 4:30 and 7 p.m.
