ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After a strong performance in his first career start, UCF freshman guard Isaac Sosa (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) earned Conference USA Rookie of the Week honors Monday, the league office announced. Sosa recorded a season-high 22 points as the Knights defeated Florida Tech Friday at the UCF Arena.
Sosa shot 6-of-12 from 3-point range in the win. The six triples tied for seventh on UCF's single-game 3-pointers made register.
He also dished out a career-best six assists and added two steals in 31 minutes in the victory. Sosa became the first UCF freshman since the 2000-01 season to score more than 20 points in a contest. On the year, he ranks second on the team in scoring at 9.8 points per game.
Sosa, who shares the weekly honor with Tyreke Evans of Memphis, is the first Knight to garner C-USA Rookie of the Week accolades. This is the first season that the league has issued the award.
Sosa and the Knights will return to action Saturday, facing Florida in Jacksonville. Tip-off at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena is set for 6:30 p.m. UCF's next home contest is slated for Dec. 22 against Valparaiso.
