Women's Tennis has Successful Day Two in Miami

Nov. 8, 2008

MIAMI, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The second day of the Miami Fall Invitational was very kind to the UCF women's tennis team on Saturday. The Knights collected four victories in five singles matches and went 2-0 in doubles play while playing in a round-robin format.

The doubles teams were the first to hit the courts in the morning. Senior Elvira Serrot and freshman Andrea Yacaman edged Miami's Bianca Eichkorn and Jenna Osborne, 8-6, for a key victory. And junior Katie Orletsky and freshman Christy Core squeezed past UM's Claudia Wasilewski and Gabriela Mejia, 9-7.

A pair of Knights then recorded straight-set wins in singles action against Florida International. Freshman Alexis Rodriguez surrendered just four games in a 6-3, 6-1 triumph vs. Maria Pazo. Orletsky also swept Megan Jones, 6-4, 6-3. After losing the first set, Yacaman battled back and easily won the second and third sets for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Priscilla Castillo. Core completed the day for UCF when her opponent Alyona Tsutskova retired due to an injury with the score 2-6, 2-5.

The fall season for the Knights comes to a close with the third and final day in Miami on Sunday.
