Rodriguez Picks Up Singles Win on Day One of the Miami Invite

Nov. 7, 2008

MIAMI, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Four schools from the state of Florida, including the UCF women's tennis team, were in action during the first day of the Miami Fall Invitational Friday. Freshman Alexis Rodriguez earned a singles victory over Miami, while three other matches went the distance in a highly-contested round-robin clash with the Hurricanes. Even though many of the matches could have gone either way, Rodriguez recorded a straight-set win, defeating UM's Lauren Greco in set one, 6-3, before grabbing the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6(3).

Sophomore Jenny Frisell and freshmen Andrea Yacaman and Christy Core all went the distance in their respective singles contests vs. Miami before suffering losses in three sets. The pairs of Yacaman/Elvira Serrot and Core/Rodriguez played doubles as well only to fall to duos from Florida State.

Day two will get underway Saturday morning at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
