Heppert Garners CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honors

Nov. 6, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - For the second-consecutive year, UCF volleyball middle blocker Jenny Heppert (Lawrence, Kan.) was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday with a spot on the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III First Team. The senior holds a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average and is expected to graduate in the spring with a degree in biology.

Heppert has earned numerous accolades throughout her career for her performance on and off the court. Last season, the middle blocker was voted onto the Conference USA All-Academic Team prior to earning her first CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III First Team honor, and was also a recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal for the third year. Heppert has been nominated for the UCF Scholar-Athlete of the Year award twice and has made the President's Honor Roll every semester she has studied at UCF.

On the court, Heppert has played in all 27 matches in 2008 and leads the team in attack percentage (.334), block assists (81), blocks per set (0.83), service aces (26) and service aces per set (0.25). The senior's attack percentage ranks sixth among her C-USA peers. Heppert also ranks third all-time at UCF in total blocks (360) and block assists (307), while ranking eighth all-time with 138 service aces.

Heppert became the program's first player to make the Academic All-District III First Team last season and is the first player to make the squad in back-to-back seasons. In 2004, Emily Watts was named to the third team and in 1997, Renata Menchikova was named to the second team.

The UCF volleyball team will honor its two seniors, Heppert and Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas), in its final home match of the season on Saturday, Nov. 15, when it hosts Southern Miss at The Venue at UCF at 7 p.m. For the latest news on the Knights, log on to www.UCFAthletics.com - the official site for UCF varsity sports.
