David Johnson Named C-USA Golfer of the Week

Nov. 6, 2008

IRVING, Texas (UCFAthletics.com) - After leading the Knights to the team title at The Hummingbird Intercollegiate in North Carolina, UCF senior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla.) has been named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Thursday. Johnson finished second with a two-round total of 8-under 134 in this week's tournament.

He concluded the 14-team event one shot behind tournament champion Hudson Johnson of Vanderbilt. The finish was the second top-10 showing of the year for UCF's Johnson. Johnson carded a 4-under 67 in both rounds at the tournament. He posted 10 birdies during the event.

The team title was the first of the year for the Knights, who won two tournaments in 2007-08.

Johnson, who garnered C-USA Newcomer of the Year honors last season after transferring from Brevard Community College, shared the weekly honor with Michael Buttacavoli of Rice.

The player of the week honor is the second of the campaign for the Knights. In September, freshman Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.) was recognized by C-USA.

The Hummingbird Intercollegiate served as the final tournament of the fall for UCF. The Knights are slated to open their spring season in mid-February, competing at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville.
