ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Already in Texas preparing for the start of the Conference USA Championship, UCF women's soccer senior Sarah de Leon learned Wednesday that she earned a spot on the C-USA All-Academic First Team, the league office announced. The Lakewood, Wash., native currently owns a 3.78 grade-point average as a hospitality management major.
De Leon became the fourth Knight to be voted onto the squad since 2006. Jennifer Manis was a two-time honoree while Kate Begley was honored in 2007.
In three seasons with the Black and Gold, de Leon has helped the UCF defense post 23 shutouts in her career. The 2006 and 2007 campaigns witnessed de Leon record two goals and two assists, but she notched her first game-winning goal this year in a 2-1 overtime victory at Memphis.
De Leon has been a member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll each season, and secured the Academic Medal for having a GPA higher than 3.75 in 2006.
The Knights will open the C-USA Championship Wednesday when they clash with host Rice at 9 p.m. ET.
