Knights Look for Back-to-Back Home Wins Saturday

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Less than 24 hours after rallying past Florida A&M 71-69 Friday night for its first win of the season, the UCF women's basketball team welcomes another in-state foe, Florida Atlantic, to town Saturday at 5 p.m. for a non-conference game.

Less than 24 hours after rallying past visiting Florida A&M 71-69 in the home opener for its first win of the 2008-09 season, the UCF women's basketball team welcomes another in-state foe to their home court today. Florida Atlantic visits with hopes of claiming its first visit of the season.

On Friday, the Knights received dominant performances from their two post players - Marcquitta Head and Emma Cannon - in beating the Rattlers. Cannon finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Head posted numbers of 17 points and 12 rebounds. UCF trailed by as many as 10 in the second half.

The Knights rebounding dominance continued with a 50-41 edge on the boards. Through two games, UCF has 101 total rebounds, including 50 on the offensive end of the floor.

Florida Atlantic enters with an 0-2 record after losses at Baylor and at home to Georgia Southern. The Owls have been led in scoring through two games by Breana Turner, a freshman averaging 15.5 points per game.

UCF leads the all-time series 20-6, including six-straight overall since an FAU victory on Jan. 30, 2002. The teams last met on Feb. 2, 2005 when UCF won at FAU 61-47.

KNIGHTS NOTES
? LAST TIME OUT: In its season opener at Colorado, the UCF women's basketball team fell to the Buffaloes 86-59. The Knights got 19 points and a career-high 17 rebounds from Emma Cannon.

? THE LAST MEETING: The last time UCF played Florida Atlantic was in Boca Raton on Feb. 2, 2005, with the Knights defeating the Owls 61-47. In Orlando that same year, UCF beat FAU 49-41.

? A-SUN FOE NO MORE: The two teams have met 26 times previously, but Saturday's game pitting the Knights and Owls will mark the first time the two teams have met in a non-conference game. The two teams used to be Atlantic Sun rivals before UCF left for Conference USA and FAU joined the Sun Belt Conference.

? UCF VS. THE SUNSHINE STATE: In the history of the program, UCF has played 353 games against 25 schools from the state of Florida. In those games, the Knights have a 191-163 all-time record.

? HOME OPENERS: UCF improved to 19-13 in home openers with the victory Friday night.

? STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE: The UCF non-conference schedule includes nine games against foes from the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten and SEC. The Knights play three of the contests at home, three on the road and three at a neutral site.

? FIRST TIMER: For each of the Knights' first seven opponents this season, head coach Joi Williams will be facing them for the first time in her head coaching career.
