MEMPHIS, Tenn. (UCFAthletics.com) - Following an upset of No. 8 SMU Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the Conference USA Volleyball Championship, the No. 9 UCF (15-16, 6-10 C-USA) volleyball team will challenge top-seeded Tulane (24-5, 15-1) in the tournament quarterfinals Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET.

UCF earned its way into the quarterfinal match against Tulane after defeating the Mustangs in four sets Thursday behind a match-high 18 kills from Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas) and a pair of double-doubles from both Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo.) and Williams. Campbell posted 13 kills and 11 digs for her 14th double-double of the season, while Williams totaled 13 kills and 10 digs for her eighth double-double this year.

The win over SMU was the first for the Knights in program history and marked only its second win in the C-USA Championship. The Knights are 7-5 in the all-time series with the Green Wave heading into Friday's contest, with Tulane winning the last three matches. The last time the Black and Gold secured a victory over Tulane was in a five-set thriller in 2005. In that match, Jenny Heppert (Lawrence, Kan.), a freshman at the time, hit a match-high .500 with 11 kills, while posting six block assists and two service aces.

This season, the Knights fell to the Green Wave at home, 3-0, despite getting 10 kills from sophomore Janine Williams (Gainesville, Fla.) and five block assists from Heppert.
