ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Due to inclement weather, the UCF men's tennis team was unable to compete on Sunday on the last day of the UCF Invitational. The tournament served as the final event of the fall for the Knights.
Rain forced the cancellation of several matches Sunday. Players from Georgia State and LSU did compete in some contests during the morning. Florida Atlantic was also participating in the event.
Head coach Bobby Cashman's Knights did excel during the first two days of the tournament. UCF players won 10 singles matches and four doubles tilts on Friday and Saturday.
Sophomore Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) paced the Knights with two singles wins in Flight A. He opened the event with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Sebastian Carlsson of LSU. Yesterday, he defeated Georgia State's Nejc Podkrajsek, 7-6 (9), 6-2. Podkrajsek is currently the 69th-ranked singles play in the country.
The Knights are scheduled to open the spring campaign on Jan. 16 at Tulsa.
