ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After a fall campaign that included a tournament title and a pair of top-five finishes, the UCF men's golf team is now ranked among the top-25 teams in the country. The Knights are 25th in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
UCF concluded the fall season on Nov. 4 by claiming the team championship at The Hummingbird Intercollegiate in North Carolina. Three Knights, led by senior David Johnson (Palm City, Fla.) in second, finished in the top-five at the tournament. UCF will open its spring campaign at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville in mid-February.
"It is nice to be recognized as a top-25 team again this year. We are continuing to build on our successes," UCF head coach Nick Clinard said. "We have a lot of work to do this offseason to continue our march to be a consistent top-10 program and we are looking forward to the challenges ahead."
The Knights are the top-ranked squad from the state of Florida in the performance index.
In addition to the title at The Hummingbird Intercollegiate, UCF recorded strong finishes at The Prestige at PGA WEST in California and the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational in nearby Windermere. The Knights finished fourth out west and tied for 11th at Isleworth, an event that included seven of the top-10 ranked teams in the nation.
Last season, the Knights spent the majority of the campaign in the top-25, moving to as high as No. 17. Clinard's squad won two tournaments in 2007-08.
