Women's Golf Signs Amelia Lewis to NLI

Nov. 12, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF head women's golf coach Emilee Klein announced on Wednesday that Amelia Lewis (Jacksonville, Fla.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Knights next fall.

Lewis is presently ranked No. 42 in the nation in the Golfweek national junior rankings and No. 18 amongst the current crop of high school seniors. She was an honorable mention AJGA All-America selection in 2008.

"Amelia is going to be a huge asset to the program," Klein said. "She is a strong player with a great overall game. She is a very competitive person who has a desire to win which is second to none. I think she will be a leader within the program who will help elevate us even further up the Conference USA and NCAA rankings."

Lewis was the Calloway Golf PGA Junior Series New Mexico State Champion in June and also won the AJGA Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic in August. In between, she placed second at the AJGA Stanford Financial Junior Championship hosted by David Gosset in late July.

In addition to her national junior accolades, Lewis has also been a standout player on the Florida high school circuit for The Bolles School in Jacksonville. The two-time First Coast Girl's Player of the Year, Lewis was the individual regional champion in 2006, 2007 and 2008. She shot a career-low round of 66 to win the 2007 FHSAA district championship.

The Knights will kick off their 2009 schedule with the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The season is highlighted by the annual UCF Challenge, March 8-10 at RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla., an event which brings many of the top 25 collegiate teams to the Orlando-area.
