UCF is 3-3 all-time against Marshall with the Thundering Herd winning each of the first three meetings and the Knights winning each of the last three, including the 2006 meeting between the sides at Marshall's Joan C. Edwards Stadium. The Knights bring one of Conference USA's leading defenses into Huntington as UCF tops the conference in passing efficiency defense and ranks second in total defense. UCF is second in the nation in tackles for loss, eighth in interceptions and 12th in sacks. Marshall is also stronger in the defensive side of the ball than on offense, ranking second in C-USA in scoring defense and third in passing efficiency defense.
