Knights Host ITA Campus Tournament

Nov. 10, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - On Sunday, the UCF men's tennis program hosted an ITA Campus Match Play One-Day Tennis Shootout at the UCF Tennis Complex. Freshman Eugene Dolgovykh (Palm Coast, Fla.) won the title at the tournament, which featured juniors, college players, professionals and adults.

UCF was one of 16 schools across the country that hosted a campus shootout. The ITA created the program to give college players an opportunity for more competition, to help provide junior players with more exposure and to build stronger ties between college programs and the local tennis community. Matches consisted of one set.

Dologovykh won the event, posting a 6-3 win in the title match over former Knight Niko Overkemping. Freshman Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) finished third at the tournament. After falling to Overkemping in the semifinals, Delinks topped Jackson Tresnan, 6-0, in the consolation match.

"We were proud to be one of the first schools in the country to participate in this innovative program. We are looking forward to hosting again next year to help us continue to strengthen our ties to the community and provide match-play experience for local players," UCF head coach Bobby Cashman said.

Dolgovykh went 3-0 during the event. Delinks and Overkemping each won a pair of matches.

Assistant coach Nick Zieziula served as the tournament director.

The Knights concluded their fall campaign on Nov. 2, hosting the UCF Invitational. The squad will open the spring season in January.
