Bracket Set for C-USA Men's Soccer Tournament

Nov. 10, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After earning a 1-1 double overtime tie at South Carolina on Friday, the UCF men's soccer team positioned itself in a four-way tie for third place in the Conference USA standings. Due to the tiebreaking scenarios set out by the league office, the Knights fell to the sixth seed in the tournament and will face third-seeded Memphis Wednesday.

The Conference USA Tournament, hosted by SMU, will be held in Dallas, Texas from Nov. 12-16. The quarterfinals are set to take place Wednesday, the semifinals will be played on Friday, and the championship game is on Sunday.

Ending a five-game losing streak with the tie at USC, the Knights finished the regular season at 6-10-1 overall and 3-4-1 in league play. Memphis concluded its run in the regular season at 6-10-2 overall and an identical 3-4-1 in conference.

On Sept. 20, the two teams opened C-USA play in Orlando, with the host Knights posting a 1-0 victory over the Tigers. Freshman Kevan George (Decatur, Ga.) scored the game's lone marker in the 59th minute while sophomore Sean Johnson (Lilburn, Ga.) needed just two saves to record a shutout.

The winner of the UCF-Memphis will meet the winner of the game between second-seeded Kentucky and seventh-seeded Marshall in Friday's first semifinal. In Wednesday's third quarterfinal, the league champion and top seed Tulsa will square off against eighth-seeded UAB. The final game of the day will pit fourth-seeded SMU and fifth-seeded USC.
