ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Sophomore Jenny Frisell (Gothenburg, Sweden) and freshman Andrea Yacaman (Cartagena, Colombia) will serve as the top two seeds at this weekend's C.L. Varner Memorial Tennis Invitational hosted by Rollins College. The action is set to begin Friday morning at the Rollins Bert Martin Tennis Complex, Tiedtke Tennis Courts and the Azalea Lane Tennis Courts.
Along with the UCF men competing as well during the event, the women's squad will be joined by Armstrong Atlantic, Barry, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Southern, Hillsborough CC, Nova Southeastern, Palm Beach Atlantic and host Rollins.
As the top seed, Frisell earned the only bye in the Flight A singles draw, while Yacaman is coming off a performance at the Gator Fall Classic in which she claimed the Flight B title. Also selected for the Flight A bracket are senior Elvira Serrot (Madrid, Spain) and sophomore Isa Ohlinger (Zweibrucken, Germany), with Serrot the first on the courts with an 11 a.m. matchup against Nova's Elisa Leeder.
Over in Flight B, two Knights picked up byes as freshmen Alexis Rodriguez (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Christy Core (Charlotte, N.C.) will not play until 3:30 p.m. Friday. Senior Kenza Belbacha (Casablanca, Morocco) gets her first taste of the 2008-09 after sitting out the first tournament with an injury, and junior Katie Orletsky (Titusville, Fla.) also will be competing on the weekend.
The doubles pair of Rodriguez and Frisell will be the second seed in Flight A, but Serrot and Yacaman will team up to open the morning at 8:30 a.m. Flight B will start Saturday for two UCF doubles tandems, as Belbacha/Core and Ohlinger/Orletsky received byes in the second round.
