ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Conference USA officials announced the league's men's basketball television schedule Thursday and five UCF contests will be aired in 2008-09. The Knights, who open the year on Nov. 16, will appear on national television twice.
When the team hosts national power Memphis on Jan. 10 for a C-USA contest at the new UCF Arena, CBS College Sports will air the game to a national audience. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. Last season, Memphis won 38 games and advanced to the national title game.
The Knights' conference home game against Houston on Feb. 4 will also be aired on CBS College Sports at 7 p.m. The Cougars recorded 24 victories in 2007-08 and participated in the inaugural Collegiate Basketball Invitational.
Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) will provide regional coverage of the UCF-USF game from the new UCF Arena on Dec. 6 with tip-off set for 5 p.m. The Knights' have not played USF in Orlando since the 2001-02 campaign.
UCF's C-USA game at UAB on Jan. 13 will also air on CSS, starting at 8 p.m. Last season, the Blazers won 23 games and played in the postseason National Invitation Tournament.
On Dec. 20, the Knights are scheduled to meet Florida in Jacksonville at 6:30 p.m. and Fox Sports Net Florida will televise the game statewide. Florida also played in the NIT last season and concluded the year with 24 victories.
Head coach Kirk Speraw's Knights feature one of the nation's premier players in senior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla.). A C-USA Player of the Year candidate, he averaged 20.8 points per game a year ago.
The 2007-08 campaign served as the program's first inside the state-of-the-art new UCF Arena. This season, UCF will play 16 contests, including eight league games, at home.
