The UCF women's golf team carded a collective 302 on Sunday, its best round of the weekend, to help the Knights finish 11th out of 18 teams at the 54-hole Tar Heel Invitational at the par-72 UNC Finley Golf Course.
Wake Forest won the event by shooting an 876, 12 strokes better than host North Carolina which finished second. UCF tallied a 917 on the weekend, improving each day with rounds of 309, 306 and 302, respectively. Amongst the teams that finished lower than UCF were No. 4 Tulsa, No. 15 Florida State and No. 19 South Carolina.
Despite a 78 on Sunday, freshman Marika Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) was UCF's top finisher, tying for 17th overall with a 224 (+8). Senior May Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla.) was UCF's top finisher of the final round as her 73 (+1) left her second overall on the Knight squad for the event with a 228 (+12). Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) shot a 232 (+16), Stephanie Connelly carded a 234 (+18) on the heels of a final round 74 and Jessy Tang (Miami, Fla.) rounded out the UCF participants with a 240 (+24).
The Knights are off to Knoxville, Tenn. next weekend to compete in the Mercedes Benz Championship, hosted by the University of Tennessee.
