Women's Golf Tied For 11th After First Round at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Sophomore Katie Detlefsen (Eagen, Minn.) shot a three-over-par 75 to pace the UCF women's golf team in its first day of competition at the Tar Heel Invitational at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. Overall, the Knights shot a 309, tying No. 21 Michigan State for 11th place in the 18-team field. No. 8 Virginia and No. 23 Wake Forest share the opening round lead with a 294 on the par-72, 6,285-yard course.

Making her season debut, Detlefsen's three-over-par 75 tied for 25th overall. Freshman Marika Lendl with just a stroke back with a 76 (+4) while senior May Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla.) was a single shot behind her with a 77 (+5). Senior Stephanie Connelly was UCF's fourth finisher with an 81 (+9) while sophomore Jessy Tang (Miami, Fla.) fired an 83 (+11) to round out the Knights' participants.

Play will continue with 18-hole rounds on Saturday and Sunday in Chapel Hill.
